SUMMER IN THE CITY (2019)

The Philippines has only two seasons – wet and dry. But March and April (and even May) have always been considered as our summer months when the sun is hot and everything sizzles, including the movies. Captain Marvel – Mar 6

She’s coming! Brie Larson who plays Carol Danvers trained nine months for the role of Captain Marvel and learned judo, boxing, and wrestling for it. She also visited Nellis Air Force Base and met with active duty airmen to perfect her role. Another American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers and produced by Marvel Studios, it is the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and follows Carol Danvers in her adventure to become one of the universe’s most powerful heroes while Earth is in a galactic war with aliens.

Wonder Park – Mar 13

Wonder Park tells the story of a magnificent amusement park where the imagination of a wildly creative girl named June comes alive. This American-Spanish 3D computer animated teen comedy adventure film is about a young, imaginative tween named June who spent her childhood constructing an amusement park called Wonderland with fantastical rides and talking animals. But something happened to June growing up that made her lose her sense of imagination and wonder. Then she finds the real Wonderland in the woods and enlists the help of her animal friends to stop its destruction.

Ulan – March 13

Ulan (Rain) is an upcoming Philippine romantic drama film written and directed by Irene Villamor and starring Nadine Lustre with a new leading man, Carlo Aquino. Plus two more: Marco Gumabao, and AJ Muhlach. In the movie the young Nadine asks her grandmother why it’s raining while the sun is out. She answers: tikbalangs are getting married. Find out why this movie directed and written by Irene Villamor for Viva Films is so caught up with rain. Villamor also directed the movies Meet Me in St Gallen and Sid and Aya.

Us – March 20

Accompanied by her husband, son and daughter, Adelaide Wilson returns to the beachfront home where she grew up as a child. Haunted by a traumatic experience from the past, Adelaide grows increasingly concerned that something bad is going to happen to her family. Her worst fears soon become a reality when four masked strangers descend upon the house, forcing the Wilsons into a fight for survival. When the masks come off, each stranger takes the appearance of a different family member. This psychological horror film follows a family who are confronted by a group of doppelgängers.

Five Feet Apart – Mar 20

Seventeen-year-old Stella spends most of her time in the hospital as a cystic fibrosis patient. Her life is full of routines, boundaries and self-control — all of which get put to the test when she meets Will, an impossibly charming teen who has the same illness. There’s an instant flirtation, though restrictions dictate that they must maintain a safe distance between them. As their connection intensifies, so does the temptation to throw the rules out the window and embrace that attraction. The film stars Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse and is based on the novel by Rachael Lippincott.

Dumbo – Mar 27

Dumbo is an American fantasy adventure firm directed by Tim Burton and inspired by Walt Disney’s 1941 animated film of the same name. Directed by Tim Burton and starring Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny De Vito, Eva Green and Alan Arkin, this live-action Dumbo remake retells the story of circus owner Max Medici who enlists the help of Holt Farrier to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughing stock in an already struggling circus. Holt’s children discover that Dumbo can fly, and it isn’t long before he becomes the star of the circus.

Shazam – Apr 3

Billy Batson is a streetwise 14-year-old who can magically transform into the adult superhero Shazam simply by shouting out “Shazam!”. His newfound powers are soon put to the test when he squares off against the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. This is another American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. It is the seventh installment in the and stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson and Zachary Levi as Dr. Sivana.

Hellboy – Apr 10

At the end of World War II, the Nazis attempt to open a portal to a paranormal dimension in order to defeat the Allies, but are only able to summon a baby demon who is rescued by Allied forces and dubbed “Hellboy” (Ron Perlman). Sixty years later, Hellboy is an agent in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense and, aided by Abe Sapien (Doug Jones), a merman with psychic powers, and Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), a woman with pyrokinesis, he protects America against dark forces. This is a reboot of the Hellboy film series and the third live-action installment..

Avengers End Game – Apr 24

Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their allies for an epic showdown with Thanos and undo the damage that he has done. It is a direct sequel to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War.
