“I really believe today is a historic moment. We will take back boxing,” said Top Rank CEO Bob Arum as he opened the press conference held at the Beverly Hills Hotel. After a brief absence inside the squared circle, Pacquiao will be aiming to reclaim the WBO Welterweight title against the former Olympian in Vargas.

“This is my first fight since I was elected as a senator. I respect Vargas because he’s the champion. It’s a big challenge for me to prove I can still manage serving the people & being a boxer.” stated Pacquiao. His trainer, Freddie Roach revealed that Pacquiao will train in the Philippines for six weeks before heading to the United States. “We’ll be 100% ready for Jessie,” said Roach.

Vargas, the current champion, finds himself in familiar territory in his looming showdown with Pacquiao. “I know I’m the underdog, but what’s changed? The media has had me as the underdog so many times.” The Mexican is a two time world champion and won his WBO Welterweight title when he defeated Sadam Ali via ninth round technical knockout last March. Team Vargas, knowing that they are up against a daunting challenge, remains undeterred, and is primed to make their mark.

“There will be a passing of the torch on November 5th. There’s a new generation in boxing, and that generation is welterweight champion Jessie Vargas,” said trainer Dewey Cooper.
