Cats – January 8

The musical fantasy film based on the stage musical of the same name by Andrew Lloyd Webber comes to life in a feature-length film starring James Corden, Dame Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson, and Francesca Hayward in her first film role. This is the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles that have to make “the Jellicle choice” to decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – January 8

The third installment of the Star Wars trilogy after The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi (2017) follows the surviving Resistance as they face the First Order once more. Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron’s journey continues, and with the power and knowledge of generations behind them, the final battle commences. The ensemble cast includes Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, and Billy Dee Williams, among others.

The Grudge – January 15

The Grudge is back, and this one is about a young mother who murders her family in her own house. A single mother and a detective investigate and find that the house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that kills all those who enter it. This new version is set in rural America but still centers around a haunted house with an evil spirit who met a horrifying end in the dwelling.

Bad Boys for Life – January 22

The Bad Boys are back too, and this is Take 3. Old-school cops Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett (Will Smith and Martin Lawrence) reunite – just as they are about to officially retire — to take down the vicious leader of a Miami drug cartel. Newly created elite team AMMO of the Miami police department along with Mike and Marcus go up against the ruthless Armando Armas that seeks to retaliate years after the duo took down the boss’s brother.

Spies in Disguise – January 22

This computer-animated spy comedy film is about super-spy Lance Sterling and scientist Walter Beckett who are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is not. But what Walter lacks in social skills he makes up for in smarts and invention, creating the awesome gadgets Lance uses on his epic missions. But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can’t learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril.

Dolittle – January 29

This magical adventure comedy film is based on the character of Dr. John Dolittle who lives in solitude behind the high walls of his lush manor in 19th-century England. His only companions are an array of exotic animals that he treats as family. Then young Queen Victoria becomes gravely ill, so the eccentric doctor and his furry friends must go to a mythical island to find the cure. Stars Robert Downey Jr. as the doctor, with Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen in live-action roles. It also features the voices of Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, and Marion Cotillard.

Birds of Prey – February 5

This American superhero film is based on the DC Comics team Birds of Prey and is the eighth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), a follow-up spin-off to the 2016 film Suicide Squad. After splitting with Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord, Black Mask in Gotham City who places a hit on a young girl named Cassandra Cain.

Kim Ji-Young: Born 1982 – February 5

Cho Nam-Joo, a former scriptwriter for TV programs, took just two months to write her best-selling story because, as she said, the life of the title character Kim Ji-young “isn’t much different from the one I have lived. The story centers on a housewife who becomes a stay-at-home mother who later suffers from depression. It depicts the everyday sexism the title character experienced since youth.

Little Women – February 19

Louisa May Alcott’s classic comes to life in 2020 as we again follow the lives of four sisters, Amy, Jo, Beth, and Meg, who come of age in America after the Civil War. Though all very different from each other, the March sisters stand by each other through difficult and changing times. The new adaptation focuses on the sisters’ young adult lives, particularly after Meg, Jo, and Amy leave their family home.

The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, James Norton, Louis Garrel, with Chris Cooper, and Meryl Streep.

Sonic The Hedgehog – February 19

Sonic, the beloved ’90s video game icon, tries to navigate the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound best friend — a human named Tom Wachowski. They must soon join forces to prevent the evil Dr. Robotnik from capturing Sonic and using his powers for world domination.

The Invisible Man – February 28

This science-fiction psychological horror film is a remake of the 1933 film of the same name. Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid). Cecilia’s abusive ex-boyfriend (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune and Cecilia suspects his death is a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turn lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.

Brahms: The Boy 2 – February 28

A young family moves to the Heelshire Mansion, unaware of the house’s dark mystery. The son discovers a porcelain doll called Brahms that appears to be eerily human. He befriends the doll and the movie called Boy puts on the scare anew.
