May and June: Merry Months of Movies

It’s May! And it’s a lusty month for watching movies, munching popcorn and sipping your favorite drink at Greenhills Cinemas, Theater Mall and the Promenade. It’s vacay time for most kids, so it’s going to be a lot of fun to bond, shop, sup and catch a flick or two.

Here’s what’s on screen for May and June at Cinemas 1 to 8 at Theater Mall, Promenade 1 and Promenade 3. Better catch it fast. It will be July soon!

Deadpool 2 – May 16

Wisecracking mercenary Deadpool joins forces with three mutants — Bedlam, Shatterstar, and Domino — to protect a boy from the all-powerful Cable. In this sequel, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) battles ninjas, the yakuza and more as he travels the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor.

Solo: A Star Wars Story – May 23 

Through a series of daring escapades, young Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian.

Alden Ehrenreich’s (Solo’s) performance is praised here, even by the original Solo, Harrison Ford. The movie, described as space western, focuses on a young Han Solo and his adventures with his Wookiee sidekick Chewbacca.

 

Citizen Jake – May 23 

Much sought after and award-winning director Mike De Leon is back with a vengeance after his long absence. The result is Citizen Jake, a Philippine noir crime drama film which stars real-life journalist Atom Araullo. The movie doesn’t mince words, is unafraid and jolting, as only De Leon can jolt you. Joining Araullo is a stellar cast that includes Cherie Gil, Gabby Eigenmann, Adrian Alandy, Nonie Buencamino, Max Collins and Dina Bonnevie, among others.

Sid & Aya: Not a Love Story – May 30 

Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis pair up for the first time in a movie with an intriguing title and an intriguing plot. Dingdong’s character Sid is an insomniac who meets Aya played by Anne Curtis. The film is directed by Irene Villamor, who is also behind the movies Camp Sawi, and Meet Me in St. Gallen.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – June 6  

This science fiction adventure film is a sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World. The film is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar off Central America’s Pacific coast. Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and Jeff Goldblum, the story takes off after the demise of the Jurassic World theme park. Dinosaurs now roam freely but a volcanic eruption threatens the island. Park manager Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) creates a rescue organization, but a dangerous hybrid dinosaur, the Indoraptor, escapes and poses another more immediate danger.

Ocean’s 8 – June 13 

This is heist comedy film that is a spin-off of the Oceans trilogy stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and features Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. Debbie Ocean (Bullock) has been planning the biggest heist of her life. Like her brother Danny, she knows she’ll need to put together a team of the best people in the field, starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller. Together, they recruit a crew of specialists, including jeweler Amita, street con Constance, suburban mom Tammy, hacker Nine Ball, and fashion designer Rose. Their target — a necklace that’s worth more than $150 million.

Incredibles 2 – June 13 

The Incredibles is back! And it’s been a long time since 2004! Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) is back in action mode and Mr. Incredible faces more challenges as he juggles life with his three children. At the same time, Elastigirl continues to fight crime and calls for the return of the “supers”. The Parr family battles a new villain who goes by the name of Screen layer.

Tag – June 27 

One month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running for a no-holds-barred game of tag — risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take one another down. This time, the game coincides with the wedding of the only undefeated player. What should be an easy target soon becomes an all-out war as he knows they’re coming to get him. This is gonna be funny!
