Eight Highly-Acclaimed Films Take Center Stage in the June Teatrino Film Series

T.E.A.T.R.I.N.O., the biggest little theater in San Juan City, screens eight highly-acclaimed Philippine independent films on June 6, 13 and 19 as part of its ongoing Teatrino Film Series.

On June 6, Barber’s Tale, the Jun Lana film about a widow who took over her late husband’s duties as community barber starts the series going at 4:00 pm. This movie won for comedienne Eugene Domingo the Best Actress Award at the 2013 Tokyo International Film Festival.

At 6:30 pm, Children’s Show, follows — a film based on a true story about children aged 13 to 15 who are exploited by a powerful syndicate that is managing an underground wrestling game. Directed by Roderick Carido, the film won Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Supporting Actor (Miggs Cuaderno) and Best Cinematography at the 2014 Cinemalaya Festival.

Last movie for the day is Ang Huling Cha-Cha Ni Anita, a film by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo, about first love seen through the eyes of a child. The movie won the Volunteer’s Choice Award in the 38th Frameline San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival.

On June 13, Transit Hannah Espia screens at 4:00 p.m. The film tells the story of a single father who is forced to hide his children from immigration police in Israel after the Israeli government decides to deport children of immigrant workers. Ang Turkey Man Ay Pabo Rin by Randolph Longjas follows at 6:30 p.m. It is a sharp and on-target comedy that blasts stereotypes about love between a Pinay and a foreigner.  Sana Dati, a 2013 romantic drama about a woman who delays her big wedding when a photographer shows up and rekindles the love she once had, returns and is the main feature at 9:00 p.m.

On June 19, Ang Nawawala, which won the Audience Choice and Best Musical Score in Cinemalaya 201, and Shift, a love story set in the call center culture ,close the June screenings at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., respectively.
