In Photos: Carlos Alberto Ibay’s Triumphant Spirit Concert at Teatrino
We greatly enjoyed Carlos Alberto Ibay’s performance at Teatrino held last January 19, 2015. Welcoming the audience is Music Museum Group President Ms. Precy Florentino with the participation of Ms. Lot Ortiz who narrated the early life, past events and present situation of the Maryknoll Sisters who served the Philippines through a photo presentation.
Blind musician Allan Gonzales opens the stage for the show. He has inspired everyone around him with his quick wit and delightful attitude with a vision of being able to share the joy of his life and music to a greater number of people.
Virtuoso pianist & tenor Carlos Alberto Ibay introduced us to 8 beautifully played symphonies including “Ave Maria” by G. Caccini, “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables by M. Schoenberg, and “Una Furtiva Lagrima” by G. Donizetti.
“Andante Spianato & Grand Polonaise” by F. Chopin represents Chopin’s lyrical and technical nature. “An American in Paris” by G. Gershwin was inspired by his teacher as he made a literal transcription of it. “Pie Jesu” by A.L. Weber was inspired from the rendition of 3 Irish priests.
OPM pieces “Sa Iyo Lamang” by M. Francisco and “Pakiusap” by F. Santiago were also performed impressively. He sang melodically with lovely tone. “Adios Nonino,” a dedication for Pope Francis’ flight back to Rome from the Philippines, is a composition by tango Argentine composer Ástor Piazzolla in 1959 while at New York written and was written in memory of his father.
His final song “The Prayer” is written by David Foster, Carole Bayer Sager, Alberto Testa and Tony Renis, popularized by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, showed virtues of contemporary music.
This is a joint project of SinagTala Management for Filipino Performing Artists, Maryknoll Class of ‘68 and Teatrino as he performs a month-long Philippine concert tour, a rare opportunity to experience his wonderful and inspiring musicality. The event benefits the retired, aging and sick Maryknoll nuns and sisters.

Who is Carlos Alberto Ibay?
Carlos Alberto Ibay is an accomplished concert pianist and a singer. While blind, he is gifted with a rich tenor voice and is fluent in seven languages. His vocal repertoire ranges from opera arias and sacred songs to the great American standards and the songs of Italy, Spain, France and the Philippines.
As an established concert pianist, he is equally at ease performing the Tchaikovsky B-flat Piano Concerto, improvising on Tatum’s Humoresque or playing his own transcription of Broadway musicals. He can make the audience snap their fingers with his own arrangements of the music from the great jazz artists. ~ Full article at MST Entertainment
